Touching portraits of Sarah Ponsonby (1755 - 1831), daughter of Chambre Brabazon Ponsonby, cousin of the Earl of Bessborough, and Lady Eleanor Charlotte Butler (1739 - 1829). They resolved to live together in complete isolation from society in a cottage at Plasnewydd in the vale of Llangollen, Denbighshire, north Wales. Their names were not known in the neighbourhood, and they were called 'the ladies of the vale.' A view with figures and dogs in the grounds of Greenwich Hospital, designed by Christopher Wren, and built between 1696 and 1712. The hospital closed in 1869. Between 1873 and 1998 it was the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. A plate to Malton's 'Picturesque Tour', 1792 - 1801.
